Remodeling a space or repairing a fixture usually starts with a simple plan. Simple plans grow large very quickly. First you need to decide if your project is something you want to attempt or even care to. Once its decided that you want to hire a professional who would you call? Lets start with the internet. HEY look at you on the internet!!!
You didn't know who to call and you want to get familiar with the lingo before you reach out. That's great and you should do this but beware that everything you read is not always true. Reviews of companies are a good example. So you went to Angies list and you found yourself a wonderful company that can rebuild your crumbling chimney.
Cool. The guy comes over and offers several options to get that job sold. the reviews are solid. WAIT. I wonder if those reviews are real? Of course they are. The Contractor offered the customer some money off the bill to write a glowing review. The contractor looks great and made $2000 in a single day! How wonderful for him. You didn't know what he was doing up there anyways and you picked the first company that looked good to you. Ya...lets just get this over with.
GET THREE ESTIMATES ON EVERY JOB EVERYTIME!!!! Don't pay twice the price, don't pay to little and get a bad job that will need attention again down the line. Oh he says he has overhead and your paying for experience. Does he personally do the work? Is he even there as its going on even? This guy is a middleman. Perhaps hes subbing work out to other contractors. No thanks. Don't let a salesman snowball you into an easy day for him.
